Free painting estimate template
A fill-in estimate for painting jobs, interior or exterior. Type it in on this page, then print it or save it as a PDF to send. The gray hints in each line are only suggestions and don't print.
Nothing leaves your device. Everything you type into the estimate stays in this browser tab. It isn't uploaded, saved, or sent anywhere, so refreshing or closing the page clears it. Save as PDF before you close it.
What a painting estimate should spell out
Painting quotes are hard to compare when they don't say what's included. Writing it down keeps a customer from weighing your full job against someone else's walls-only price. A few habits help:
- Room by room, or side by side. Put each room (or each side of the house) on its own line, so the customer can see what each part costs and drop one without a full re-quote.
- Say which surfaces. Walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and closets are separate decisions. If a line covers walls only, say so.
- Prep is part of the job. Scraping, sanding, patching holes, caulking gaps, and priming take real time. List them, either as their own lines or inside each room's description.
- Number of coats. Write "two coats" (or one) on each line. A color change or bare patches may need primer or an extra coat.
- Paint and who supplies it. Note the product line, sheen, and color if they're chosen, and whether paint is included in your price or the customer is buying it.
- Furniture, cleanup, and leftovers. Say whether you move furniture, how you protect floors, and that leftover paint stays with the customer if that's your practice.
- Valid-until date and payment terms. How long the price holds, any deposit, and how you take payment.
For the longer walk-through (scope wording, exclusions, change orders, sign-off), see how to write a contractor estimate.
This is a general template, not legal or tax advice. Rules on contracts, deposits, sales tax, and painting licenses vary by state, so check what applies to you. If the home was built before 1978 and the work disturbs old paint (scraping or sanding), federal lead-safe work rules may apply; see the EPA's lead page.
